Fire protection systems

Based on the fact that our GT units use flammable fuels and our tanks hold up to 19.500 m3 of extra light fuel oil, TPP Brestanica is a highly fire hazardous facility. In response, fire protection is a big issue in TPP Brestanica.

All of the main buildings, equipment and technology systems are protected by active fire protection systems.

Every GT unit is protected by automatic systems for detecting flammable gas, fire, smoke and heat. If at least one of these systems would detect abnormalities, the respected GT unit would trip and a CO2 fire extinguishing system, situated near each of the GT units, would activated.

An automatic water fire extinguishing system protects power transformers.

Fuel tanks are protected with an automatic fire protection system. A mixture of water and foam extinguishes the burning tank. Its outside layer and the outside layer of the tank next to it, is cooled by water.

The hydrant system, situated across the power plant, supplies water for fire protection. Water in this system is pressurised by electrical or diesel pumps in the fire protection facility.

The computerised control system enables immediate intervention by our own fire brigade in case of fire.
